Taking up full membership

If you decide to take up full membership then you must complete a self certification medical form. There are few disqualifying conditions, but you will understand that the BS-AC has firm guidelines concerning subjects such as Asthma, Epilepsy, Cardiac Pacemakers, Diabetes etc. Sometimes a new member may be suffering from one of these conditions without being aware of it and you are strongly advised to consult your own doctor before completing the form. If there are any problems you may have to consult one of BS-AC’s Medical Referees. The annual subscription paid by a Branch Member is in two parts - the BS-AC HQ subscription and the Branch subscription. Branches will collect both parts from members when they join or renew their membership. The HQ subscription is sent to HQ with details of the new/ renewing member in order to update HQ membership records for the accurate and regular distribution of ‘Dive’ magazine. New members will receive a Diving Manual, Qualification Logbook, and Student Workbook which are subsidised by the Branch. The level of a Branch subscription is determined by the Branch Committee and reflects the services and facilities provided by the Branch. BS-AC does not at present allow young people under the age of 14 years to join in its activities. Youth membership of the club is open to those between the ages of 14 and 18. While membership periods are always for one year new members will be credited if they join after the beginning of the club year according to a schedule kept by the Membership Secretary each year. A number of other classes of membership are available at much reduced rates, suitable for non-diving family members, which will allow them to use the pool for swimming each Thursday evening, and participate in other Club events.
